Fireproof The Movie

September 29, 2008

There is a new movie out at theaters called Fireproof that I would love to see. I am hoping my daughter and her boyfriend will go see this movie and I work so very hard at keeping them pointed in the right direction when it comes to relationships and the subject of marriage and the commitment you make is a life long one!  So many today don’t have these values and its my hope to give them to my children and hope they continue to pass them on generation after generation after generation.

A little about the movie:

It’s Time to Say ‘I Do’ to Fireproof the Movie

Fireproof, the new feature film from the makers of Facing the Giants, debuts today in 830 theatres across the country. The movie is about Captain Caleb Holt, a fireman who is a hero to all but his own wife. The couple, exhausted by constant conflict, prepares for divorce until Caleb decides to follow his father’s wisdom. Caleb’s father gives his son “The Love Dare,” a book of 40 daily challenges that he hopes will point the couple toward reconciliation and faith in Jesus Christ. Two weeks ago at the Values Voter Summit, we hosted an advance screening of Fireproof. The movie is not only riveting but provides a message of encouragement for those seeking to strengthen their marriage or prepare for marriage. With a hostile cultural climate that undermines marriage, this movie is a breath of fresh air.

The First and Greatest Commandment

September 25, 2008

My brother in law sent this to us in an email and I am sharing it here on my blog.  I am not one who passes on emails, as some try to make it a “chain” but I believe in spreading the word and love of Christ and can reach far more hearts than just relatives and a few close friends…

The First and Greatest Commandment

Jesus replied, ” ‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.”  This is the first and greatest commandment.  A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ ” (Matthew 22:37–38)

Some years ago, around three hundred whales were found marooned on a beach.  Scientists speculated that the whales had been chasing sardines and became trapped in shallow water when the tide went out.

Now that’s an amazing thing.  By chasing little sardines, these gigantic creatures were ultimately led to their doom.

Many people waste their lives chasing sardines, so to speak.  They major on the minors and have no clear focus or objective in mind.

But God tells us what should be the primary goal of every Christian.  If we can get our priorities straight in this area, everything else will come together.  In fact, if we can get these two principles operating in our lives, then all the commandments of God will become a natural outflow of our commitment to Him.

What are these principles?  One, ” ‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind’ ” (Matthew 22:37); and two, ” ‘Love your neighbor as yourself’ ” (verse 38).

When Jesus spoke these words, He was identifying what should be the focus of every person.  Essentially, He was saying that love is the basis for all obedience.  If you really love God, then you will naturally want to do the things that please Him.

It has been said, “If you aim at nothing, you are bound to hit it.”  What is your highest priority in life?  What are your goals?

We all channel our energies and passions and thoughts toward something in life.  What is it for you?

Teaching Position

September 23, 2008

After being interviewed by the school administration, the
teaching prospect said, ‘Let me see if I’ve got this right:
‘You want me to go into that room with all those kids, correct
their disruptive behavior, observe them for signs of abuse, monitor
their dress habits, censor their T-shirt messages, and instill in them
a love for learning.

‘You want me to check their backpacks for weapons, wage war on drugs
and sexually transmitted diseases, and raise their sense of self esteem
and personal pride.
‘You want me to teach them patriotism and good
citizenship, sportsmanship and fair play, and how to register to vote,
balance a checkbook, and apply for a job. You want me to check their
heads for lice, recognize signs of antisocial be behavior, and make sure
that they all pass the state exams.

‘You want me to provide them with an equal education regardless of
their handicaps, and communicate regularly with their parents by
letter, telephone, newsletter, and report card.

‘You want me to do all this with a piece of chalk, a blackboard, a
bulletin board, a few books, a big smile, and a starting salary
that qualifies me for food stamps. You want me to do all this and then
you tell me……………..’I CAN’T PRAY?

That is asking for a lot, no?

Priorities

September 23, 2008

This was shared with me via an email and I felt it in my heart to post:

And he will give you all you need from day to day if you live for him and make the Kingdom of God your primary concern.  (Matthew 6:33)

A man was out driving in the country during a heavy rainstorm when he came across an old farmer who was surveying the ruins of his barn.  He pulled over and to ask the farmer what happened.

“Roof fell in,” the farmer replied.

“What happened with it?  Why did it fall in?” asked the stranger.

“It leaked so long, it just finally rotted through,” the farmer said.

“Why in the world didn’t you fix it before it rotted through?”

“Well, sir,” said the farmer, “I just never did seem to get around to it.  When the weather was good, there wasn’t a need for it.  And when it rained, it was just too wet to work on.”

Isn’t it amazing that when you want to do something, you find the time, no matter how busy you are?  But when someone asks you to do something you don’t want to do, suddenly there is just no room in the schedule.

This can happen when it comes to the Christian life as well.  If we are serving God only when it’s convenient, then we are settling for second-best.  If we only make time for the things of God when something better doesn’t come along first, then we are missing out on what God wants to do in our lives.

How much better it is to make time for the things of God–to put the things of God above everything else.  How much better it is to get your priorities right.

Instead of making excuses, make time for the Lord.  It is not only the simple way to live, but also the best way.

Monday Morning MeMe #4

September 22, 2008

1. What did you do over the weekend? (Saturday and Sunday - be specific, please. Remember, this is a journal about your life, so, tell us about your life. *smile*)

Saturday I designed some scrap elements, went out to eat with my daughter and her boyfriend to the Olive Garden, their treat for us, for the never ending pasta bowl!  My son was acting very childish playing with his noodles in front of the waitress and he is 16.  That didn’t make for a very good time however he did get upset when he got cocky with us saying he wasn’t playing with “his” noodle.  OH yes definitely one to remember.  Then on Sunday I ran to Sam’s Club for things we needed like cat food, case of water and few other things, well spent over $100 but that is not hard to do at a Sam’s Club, especially when you were without power and lost everything in your refrigerator and freezer.  Then I went to Giant Eagle for a few more groceries, and came home.  I made chili for dad for dinner, my hubby wings and potato wedges since he was watching his football game, and then I scrapped.

2. Which are scarier to you: ghosts or aliens? Why? Do you believe in either/both? Why or why not?

I would say Ghosts are more scarier to me.  I do believe in spirits, but not in aliens.  I mean after all, this isn’t our “home”.  Our home is in heaven and technically we are all aliens in that sense.  I remember this sermon at my church back home that I miss oh so much.

3. I can’t live without my computer. Now, please tell us why you can’t live without it.

My computer is my escape here at home.  Being a stay at home mother for over 10 years, a caregiver to my father, my teenage son attending school over the internet (public school..charter), and being a one car family, its a life line for me.  All my friends are online and I value each and every one of them.  I love being creative and I am not one who wants to sit in front of a television for hours on end.  I am a digital scrapbooking gal and love to blog, I have four of them.  It really keeps my mind busy.  If i am up for a little game or two I just stick in my Sims 2 game or play on my account at Pogo.

4. What is the cheesiest movie you ever saw, and secretly enjoyed? Why did you enjoy it so much?

Wow this is really a tough one.  I don’t think there is one in all seriousness.  But if I think of one I will come back and edit this.

I just love half price books!

September 21, 2008

I took my son to Half Priced Books to find him some Spanish software that will aide in helping him learn this language.  Since he attends a charter school via the Internet, this can be a challenge for him.  So I thought maybe if I found something he could use in addition to school provided stuff then he learn better.

I was looking in their religion section and so happy to have found two books by Kay Authur I can’t wait to read.  They are  Lord, only you can change me, and Lord I’m torn between two masters.  These are devotional studies on growing in character and priorities.  I really love her books.  I hope I can find more soon!

Food 4 Thought #2

September 19, 2008

Breakfast
What is one thing you look forward to each day? Each week?

I look forward to my bath, its the only alone or “me” time I get!

Lunch
Are you a hoarder or a chucker?

Definitely a hoarder, I don’t like to throw anything away!!

Dinner
Do your dinner meals consist mostly of home cooked meals, convenience foods (i.e. boxed, frozen, heat & serve, etc.), or fast food? Who does most of the cooking in your home?

Mostly home cooked meals, my family isn’t bi on “boxed or heat and served”.  I do all of the cooking in the home, well except hubby does make himself and my father ( I am his caregiver) bacon on Sundays

Midnight Snack
Has the rising cost of gasoline caused you to restrict, limit, or alter anything in your life? If so what?

Well we are a one car family and the prices have caused a restriction, as my hubby said we can’t afford two cars at the prices of gas now, which really does break my heart, I wish I had a car during the day so I could go and do some things.

Recipe for this Week (instead of your recipe for life - what is it for just this week?)

To take each day one day at a time and to Let Go and Let God!
