He forgot to take his meds today

Every evening, I get my dads medication ready for him.  He is unable to open the prescription bottles because of his rheumatoid arthritis.  And those little daily pill holders that are plastic and you just snap open and close, he can’t open them either.  So I use those Dixie cups.  I make up the evening cup and the morning cup, because he is an early riser!  Very early!  I am not a sound sleeper and with battling this cold its been a little worse so I haven’t been getting up as early, but I always make sure his medications are ready.  He has never EVER forgotten to take his medication before.  Well I went in this evening to get his medications ready and noticed I needed to grab one of the other bottles since the one ran out, opened his dresser drawer where he keeps them and was a little surprised to find a sample of a diet pill in there.  I was very concerned, I mean he takes nine different medications not including one that is in shot form every two weeks.  I immediately came out and said hey where did you get this and he said his friend that he visits with at the mall every day gave it to him.  He didn’t know what to do with it so he tucked it away!  I am so thankful he didn’t just take it.  But hubby wonders if that was the only one given to him because he has been acting a bit out of is normal lately.  I will research it when he isn’t home, if I do it while he is home, well then he will start calling me Dr. Mother again and remind me how he isn’t six years old!  Caregiving, sometimes it just isn’t easy!!
